I was pretty salamied out by the time I walked into the store. I bought the Pizza di Pasqua and candy instead since i knew they would make it through customs!

Ah yes, there is that. Italian cured meats, sausages, salumi etc are brilliant but not easily taken across borders. My favourite is a salami di cinghiale. Yummy. And by the way I am completely jealous of your experience!

I'm certain it will still be there if you decide to visit Rome. For a real treat try Cinghiale Proscutto, wild boar prosciutto, omg, delicious. When I first went to Volpetti's Claudio insisted that I could bring it to the USA if it was vacuum sealed.....I lost $30 worth at Cusoms....they wouldn't even let me eat it. Just tossed it in a trash can (((sniff))). You can only take it to other EU countries that way. He's aware of this now.

Tragedy! I have occasionally succeeded in getting (vacuum packed) things into South Africa - always cause for foodie celebration. I'll be back in Italy in August and really looking forward to getting my fix of cinghiale
