Sweet textured milk atop a smooth double shot espresso for a stellar morning cup. This spot has become a regular during my stay in Chiang Mai. Great drinks and a friendly staff. Barista has 5+ years training in Australia coffee culture and the attention in the drinks shows!
Easily the best espresso in Chiang Mai's popular old city. My choice cuppa is a strong flat white (a double shot) and is similar to Americans cappuccino. Velvety microfoam gives a hint of sweetness to their local Thai blend. Combined with in house roasting and careful bean selection makes for high quality results. This morning I also sampled a croissant which had a nice flakey consistency. Highly recommended place with a select menu of coffee specialties and friendly pair of baristas.
After a visit to the Bangkok location I needed another bowl. A recipe o pork and chicken bone stock reputed to be cooked 24 hours at this Ramen Champion spot. While this location doesn't have the same feel of the BKK location. .the food was right on! Harmonic greeting from the Thai staff as customers enter. Restaurant from Nagoya, Japan.. awesome noodles
Doing what I love..scoring food! These guys set up and sell durian like others sell ****** on a street corner of the World Heritage city of Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. Here I am in deep discussion of the varieties available and their flavors, before we settled on a price (I wanted them all!) This is serious food business. These guys could care less about slow food movement, organic vs. conventional, etc.. Save that rhetoric for another time.. This is the real deal, the way it's always been done as the fruit never leaves the island and are brought to the city on a motorbike, and purchased straight from the dealer via farmer. THE KING OF FRUITS, once reserved for Oragantans, Sultans and Monarchies now available to the common man
Last of the durian season score here..I forgot what the cultivar was, but I chose the most expensive of 3 varieties available. (It wasn't red prawn, which had finished already) Perfection! selected in a way I've not seen, by sticking in a small pairing knife to the flesh and smelling for ripeness. After 4 attempts to find the right fruit, this gift from the earth was exposed for sacrifice to my taste buds. Best I've had? Possibly.. I must return during next years season for sure.
If you've had the pleasure of this beverage you know. I've had nothing like this, one of the best discoveries on my journey to #Penang. It is reputed not to exist on our planet in juice form many places outside of here. Respect to the many lives lost over the centuries for this prized harvest. Penang was a center for trade to Europe and New World of this epic spice, due to Mace and Nutmeg both coming from the same tree, traders to much protection. Abundance on the island and involving a labor intensive process provide what might appear to be a basic beverage, but the flavor in this glass is indescribable to the uninitiated. My new favorite liquid!! #fresh #nutmeg #juice
Deep fried wontons of legendary handmade proportion! In #Penang accidental foodgasms will occur, lucky as a first timer to the island I had quite a few. Upon reflection I find this stall is famous for its wonton. Fried to order between a busy wrapping ritual. I would like to become an expert in the cuisine here with simple items such as this making the mouth go WOW! 2MYR or about USD $.70 for a plate.

USD$1+ this mighty plate of smoky fired noodles and fresh seafood bites was a definite score!! More research needed in this quest! (Note: this is not pad Thai, which is a bastardized cousin and a whole other discussion)
