  • Falafel @ Habib's Charcoal Chicken
    Spotted March 06, 2012
The owners of this place must've changed. The food is so different from years before... The origin of falafel is quite controversial. A common theory is that the dish originated in Egypt, possibly eaten by Copts as a replacement for meat during Lent. It has also been theorized to a lesser extent that falafel originated during Egypt's Pharaonic Period or in the Indian subcontinent.

  • Reuben Sandwich @ Reuben & Moore
    Spotted January 02, 2012
Where did the Reuben come from? One account holds that Reuben Kulakofsky (sometimes spelled Reubin, or the last name shortened to Kay), a Lithuanian-born grocer from Omaha, Nebraska, was the inventor, perhaps as part of a group effort by members of Kulakofsky's weekly poker game held in the Blackstone Hotel from around 1920 through 1935. The participants, who nicknamed themselves "the committee", included the hotel's owner, Charles Schimmel. The sandwich first gained local fame when Schimmel put it on the Blackstone's lunch menu, and its fame spread when a former employee of the hotel won a national contest with the recipe.

  • Falafel @ El Jannah
    Spotted December 28, 2011
Generally accepted to have first been made in Egypt, falafel has become a dish eaten throughout the Middle East. The Copts of Egypt claim to have first made the dish as a replacement for meat during Lent. The fritters are now found around the world as a replacement for meat and as a form of street food.
