  • Lebanese Bread @ El Jannah
    Spotted December 28, 2011
Lebanese bread is also known as kumaj bread. Kumaj apparently, is a Turkish word for bread that is cooked on charcoal. This sets it apart from out other two popular breads: marquq or saj bread (large, circular and paper thin bread cooked on a convex grill), or tannour bread (cooked in a tandour-like oven).

I love how when you sit down, one of these baskets are immediately served. The bread is so soft - you're then looking at the menu to suss out the dips to eat it with!

    • The Very Hungry Katerpilla
The Very Hungry Katerpilla I used to go to the original one in Lakemba heaps until Al Aseel opened. Have you been to the Lakemba one or Al Aseel and if so, how does it compare?

T I think I tried the one in Lakema AGES ago! At the time Bankstown was better but recently the owner of the Bankstown one changed and so did the menu so now I'm dissapointed. I'm willing to try Lakemba one again actually, wondering if times have changed. Al Aseel I want to try to! I love different cuisines (less asian :P). There's also Summerland at Bankstown that was once upon a time a bustling place with good fresher food but it's since been emptied out of customers and I'm not too sure why!

      The Very Hungry Katerpilla
The Very Hungry Katerpilla Yeah Lakemba one was my go to for Leb food and then it went a bit downhill, but Al Aseel is really good and is now my benchmark. Oh yeah, I went to Summerland a few times, Ali loves their freshly made Lebanese bread, and they had some lovely watermelon, dates and haloumi salad but other than that their food doesn't compare to Al Aseel.
