Carastian Ahhh booby trapped fried rice... Had something similar the other day at the favorite Chinese place where they asked whether I like spicy - which I foolishly answered yes. Sweat sweat and a burning sensation was the side order of this beautiful dish:-) beer helped.

  • Rice Paper @ Bau Truong Restaurant
    Spotted February 18, 2012
The rice paper rolls before we dipped them into the water! It looks lovely in its little bamboo housing. Edible rice paper is used for making fresh summer rolls (salad rolls) or fried spring rolls in Vietnamese cuisine, where the rice paper is called bánh tráng or bánh đa nem. Ingredients of the food rice paper include white rice flour, tapioca flour, salt, and water. The tapioca powder makes the rice paper glutinous and smooth.

The menu is quite simple here and I didnt want to keep ordering the same foods - so I went down the fried rice path! Surprisingly quite nice! Did you know the difference that makes Thai fried rice different is that it is usually served with sliced cucumber and "Prik nam pla", a spicy sauce made of Thai chili, fish sauce and chopped garlic.

  • Brown Rice @ Nok Nok Thai Eating House
    Spotted February 16, 2012
In much of Asia, brown rice (Chinese: 糙米; pinyin: cāomǐ; literally "rough rice"; Korean: 현미; hyeonmi; literally "dark rice"; Japanese: 玄米; genmai; Thai: ข้าวกล้อง; Vietnamese: gạo lứt; Tagalog: pináwa) is associated with poverty and wartime shortages, and in the past was rarely eaten except by the sick, the elderly and as a cure for constipation. This traditionally denigrated kind of rice is now more expensive than common white rice, partly due to its relatively low supply and difficulty of storage and transport.

  • Fried Rice @ @ Thailand
    Spotted December 22, 2011
Fried Rice from Thai restaurants is radically different from that of common fried rice, mostly due to the use of Jasmine rice and has various additions not found in Chinese fried rice. It is usually served with sliced cucumber and "Prik nam pla", a spicy sauce made of Thai chili, fish sauce and chopped garlic.
