Randy F. Woohoo!!!! Alexa, you were smart and went to both. I found Ringer Hut to be average....
Alexa Andrzejewski I really like Champon! But Santouka was absolutely fantastic as well. Want to go back for Spicy!
Randy F. If you like Champon, Izakaya Mai in San Mateo is another often mentioned place that serves it. I just like pho and ramen much better. The spicy miso isn't that spicy at Santouka and mainly has chili oil added. For spicy, Ramen Dojo (sister restaurant to Santa Ramen) is prob a better choice. :)
Randy F. Also forgot to mention: prior to Santouka opening, the next door Kahoo Ramen was considered a top ramen place. Their spicy Kotteri ramen is pretty good too and just literally next door to Santouka for your next ramen hop!

Stephanie I totally agree. Deep fried egg on top is a brilliant idea, but wasn't actually that good when I had it there. Also, why are there only 6 orders available daily?

Spotted December 05, 2009FINALLY found some ramen I can fall in love with in the Bay Area! I was SO lucky to get the last bowl of Miso Ramen tonight (they sold out around 7:30pm), because even compared to the Pork Ramen, it was *incredibly* rich, thick and amazing. No wonder people say that Santa Ramen is in a class of its own! It was as good as Ippudo in New York (as was the equally as good stewed kurobuta pork belly on the side) and the broth was as good as the ramen I had in Tokyo. I don't know if it was just that the last bowl of broth was the richest, but I'll certainly be back to see! And though you still can't beat the Tsukemen Noodles I had there, these were certainly the right chewy texture. So thankful it was as good as it was hyped up to be!

Randy F. When we add comments, do the foodspots go to the front page now? This Alpha has been great....I'm going to forward to two Yelp contacts who are huge photobugs...
Alexa Andrzejewski Hi Randy! No, it doesn't work quite like that... yours were popping to the front page because I was trying to edit the place so they're all at the same Santa Ramen, but to no avail. :-(
Randy F. I know you're a fan of Santa, Alexa.....I've heard that Santa Ramen is opening a 2nd shop in their original location. It's called Ramen Dojo and will serve a spicy ramen style only. Opening on 4/8. Prob worth checking out!

Spotted November 11, 2009Katana-ya's broth is delicious -- the rich miso broth is almost milky, and cloudy with goodness. I need to remember to stop ordering the house ramen -- the version with everything on it -- because I don't like half the things. Next time, it's butter corn ramen for me! This had pork, corn, egg, fried chicken, potstickers, seaweed, and those bitter things I don't like, which I guess are shitake mushrooms, but I thought I liked those... -

Spotted August 05, 2009This picture does not convey the size of this soup! The price was incredibly reasonable too. Who knew there could be so much good Thai in my homeland, SOMA?
