Spotted March 22, 2012Finally some legit ramen in San Francisco! Gravy-like broth? Check! Textured noodles, available on the side? Check! Quality toppings? Check! (Slow cooked egg, pork and fried chicken are all so tender, they melt in your mouth.) I've had more flavorful broth but as a package it was quite good! -
Spotted August 27, 2011Dry meaning not in soup, these were dripping with tasty flavors and oils. You can appreciate the sticky #hand-pulled noodle texture all the more in dry form.-

Spotted August 19, 2011Legit ramen broth (thick and rich) though slightly light on flavor (I added soy and shichimi and it was perfect. Noodles weren't that chewy. But still, overall a good bowl of ramen.-

nomnomboris great picture :)
Alexa Andrzejewski Thanks! The place was almost completely dark to my camera's eyes, so I had Seth turn on his iPhone screen and hold it close to the noodles!
LML // Justine Lol just had a moment like that last night to take a picture of a late night salad and piadina at my fav local bar- it took 4 Phones to see a glimpse of the bread lol, and your shot is way better :-)
Alexa Andrzejewski P.S. When I took the leftover broth out of my fridge this afternoon, it had turned to a solid (well, solid on top, gel beneath). Now that's the mark of a rich bowl of ramen...

Spotted May 12, 2011Excellent and very unique #ramen -- thick, smooth gravy-like broth with dashi (#fish) powder isn't for everyone, but the thick noodles were delicious, if a little mooshy for my taste.-

Spotted April 17, 2011I still don't know how they make these thick, #chewy noodles, but they are amazing! The broth for dipping was flavorful, but since we had to order from a vending machine, it was unclear what kind it was, and it was quite fishy.-

Randy F. Love all the Japanese food sightings....hope the travel to that part of the world was safe and that the country is doing better.
Munchee Shepherd the sheen on those noodles makes me want them even more = )

Spotted February 13, 2011Just add sriacha! As usual, the beef isn't the most tender, but the noodles were irregularly shaped and perfectly cooked, which made it a cut above the rest!-

Randy F. Woohoo!!!! Alexa, you were smart and went to both. I found Ringer Hut to be average....
Alexa Andrzejewski I really like Champon! But Santouka was absolutely fantastic as well. Want to go back for Spicy!
Randy F. If you like Champon, Izakaya Mai in San Mateo is another often mentioned place that serves it. I just like pho and ramen much better. The spicy miso isn't that spicy at Santouka and mainly has chili oil added. For spicy, Ramen Dojo (sister restaurant to Santa Ramen) is prob a better choice. :)
Randy F. Also forgot to mention: prior to Santouka opening, the next door Kahoo Ramen was considered a top ramen place. Their spicy Kotteri ramen is pretty good too and just literally next door to Santouka for your next ramen hop!
