As you know, OpenTable acquired Foodspotting in 2013, not only for its amazing content, but also for its incredibly loyal and engaged community. Since then, you’ve been instrumental in how friends and experts alike discover the best dishes across the world, and for that, we just want to say thank you.

But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. After much deliberation, we have chosen to discontinue the Foodspotting app and website in early May. If you’d like to keep all the photos you’ve captured over the years, we encourage everyone to take this opportunity to download your content. Click here for details

On behalf of our entire team, thank you again for using our product and for all the feedback you’ve provided along the way–we couldn’t have done it without you. If you have any questions or concerns, let us know and we’ll be sure to follow up directly.

  • While sushi may seem simple, these pure morsels from the sea have an undeniable appeal. Though it's "just fish" to some, sushi enthusiasts could tell you that each bite is an adventure or like feeling a story unfold. This is where JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI comes in...

JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI is the story of 85 year-old Jiro Ono, considered by many to be the world’s greatest sushi chef. He is the proprietor of Sukiyabashi Jiro, a 10-seat, sushi-only restaurant inauspiciously located in a Tokyo subway station. Despite its humble appearances, it is the first restaurant of its kind to be awarded a prestigious 3 star Michelin review, and sushi lovers from around the globe make repeated pilgrimage... At the heart of this story is Jiro’s relationship with his eldest son Yoshikazu, the worthy heir to Jiro’s legacy, who is unable to live up to his full potential in his father’s shadow.

We're thrilled to partner with Magnolia Pictures to give away passes to special advance screenings of JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI in the following cities:

Los Angeles February 8 at The Landmark
New York City February 13 at Walter Reade Theater
San Francisco February 16 at Lumiere Theatre

For a chance to win, simply download and launch the Foodspotting app from now until February 4th to stumble on a Golden Ticket containing a pair of passes to the LA show (SF and NY shows will be going into the Golden Ticket stream after that). Good luck and, as always, happy Foodspotting!

NOTE Winners will need to arrive early for seats as all screenings are overbooked.

      wow these dishes look amazing!
  • Foodspotting began with a clear mission: to canvas the world with dish recommendations so that you'll always find a good meal wherever you go. Our desire to bring together travel and dining inspired collaborations with tourism boards like Discover Ireland and the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau to showcase exciting dishes around the globe! Today, we're excited to introduce our Ireland winner Donald Tighe and Hawaii winner Nicole Manuel who share how they used Foodspotting to win dream culinary getaways...

FOODSPOTTING Donald, congrats on winning our Discover Ireland culinary trip! In your quest to win, did you learn about or try any new dishes?

DONALD TIGHE I'm simply thrilled; thank you! The contest inspired my first guide, Irish Restaurants in Washington, D.C., where I live. I got to about 25 dishes, but there are plenty more to be found. The most interesting twist on an old classic was the smoked salmon boxty, and the most indulgent was the Dubliner Mac & Cheese with diced corned beef.

FS What are some foods you're excited to try when you visit Ireland in November?

DT I am excited about tasting, and experiencing, the link between the geography and cuisine. Obviously that includes coastal cuisine, but the island’s temperate climate has also impacted everything the island is famous for, from Irish soda bread and cheeses to dishes with beef and lamb. Also, because Irish cuisine has grown so significantly in quality and diversity, I hope to see examples of cooking schools, and learn from some of the chefs I meet on my trip.

North Carolina resident Nicole Manuel has strong sweet cravings, and it was a fateful dessert that won her an eating tour of Hawaii...

NM Living in Raleigh, NC gives me the opportunity to eat at a lot of amazing places, so I started using Foodspotting to keep track of the meals and search for recommendations. I have a huge sweet tooth and my winning foodspotting was actually a dessert that my boyfriend Sal and I almost passed up… I'm so glad I've got such a sweet tooth!

FS What were some dishes you discovered during your trip? Any favorites?

NM We found so many different ethnic foods in Hawaii. There was Japanese, Polynesian and more, but we didn't expect to find foods from our own heritage. Sal is Filipino and loved Thelma's Special in Waipahu; my mother's family is Portuguese so I loved having Portuguese sausage with my breakfast. You also can't go to Hawaii without trying malasadas. Then there was the seven-course tasting menu at Alan Wong's in Honolulu. Imagine dish after dish of the most delicious fish, lobster, foie gras and beef using the finest local and exotic ingredients. We loved the food in Oahu so much I made a Foodspotting guide called Eating Across Oahu to keep track of our favorites!

Check out this video that Nicole's boyfriend made of their trip!

Thanks to our winners for sharing their experiences. We can't wait to bring you guys more culinary travel contests! Tell us in the comments - where is your ultimate dining destination?

So jealous I missed this competition. But if you do another contest, I would LOVE to foodspot in Italy, more specifically the south of Italy! It's more than pastas and pizzas. The fresh seafood, amazing olive oil, lemons and other fresh produce, and OH the cappuccinos! I've been once but I know there is so much more to discover :)
Congrats to the winners. I have traveled to many destinations and eaten many differents foods, but I would still like to explore more of the foods of Italy.
