• Lately, it's been a monthly celebration of our love affair with street food. This month is no different with the beloved San Francisco Street Food Fest, presented by La Cocina, taking place in our hometown. The festivities will kick off this year with the city's first ever Night Market on Friday, August 17, followed by the SF Street Food Fest on Saturday, August 18.

Being the great Foodspotting pals that we are, we're teaming up with La Cocina to give away free tickets to both events!

To win yourself tickets to one of the two events, simply open up the Foodspotting iPhone and Android apps from now until August 16 to stumble upon Golden Tickets randomly in our Explore stream. Make sure you're logged in and keep checking back to increase your chances of winning.

  • Our team is a big fan of the great food scene in Canada. The Toronto Underground Market (TUM) is a prime example. The monthly social food market, located at the historic Evergreen Brickworks, is the first of its kind in Canada. TUM is a community market—not a farmer's market, and not quite a food festival — but something unique to feature budding food entrepreneurs, chefs and beverage folks. A recent CBC News reporter captured it best: “The beer is flowing, the barbeques are going, everything smells so good I can almost taste it. 2,200 tickets sold out in just 4 hours.”

Curious? Tickets for the August market, taking place on Saturday, August 25 at 6-11 pm, go on sale starting NOW! They sell out like hotcakes, so go get em in the next few hours.

The best part: We're teaming up with TUM to give away Foodspotting t-shirts at the next three events. Follow TUM on Twitter to find out how to win.

  • One of San Francisco's biggest annual events, Outside Lands, is in its fifth year this August. Not only is it a fabulous music experience, the food and drink lineup also showcases the city's top dining fare.

From August 10-12 in Golden Gate Park, Outside Lands will feature a total of 86 music acts, including Stevie Wonder, Neil Young & Crazy Horse and Foo Fighters, AND over 200 local food, beer and wine options, such as Bun Mee, Maverick, Namu Gaji and American Grilled Cheese Kitchen. Bonus this year is the new Beer Lands, made up of 16 breweries.

Of course, we're teaming up with Outside Lands to give one lucky winner two 3-day passes to this year’s festival. It's easy: Snap a photo from any restaurant on the Outside Lands restaurants lineup, upload to Foodspotting with the hashtag #outsidelands and you will be automatically entered into a lottery for the chance to win. See the full list of restaurants.

If you're already going to Outside Lands this year, spot any of your meals at the festival with the same #outsidelands hashtag, and you could win tickets to the 2013 event.

Note: Entries to win the 2012 tickets will be accepted from now through midnight PT on August 5, 2012. The lottery will be selected at random. The winner for 2012 will be notified via email by August 6, 2012, and the winner for the 2013 tickets will be notified via email before the end of August. Tickets for both Outside Lands 2012 and Outside Lands 2013 are non-transferrable and re-sale is not prohibited. Please note guests of Beer Lands and Wine Lands must be 21+ to enter.

Hey Sara, no limits - enter as many individual dishes as you want! Just not the same dish over and over again ;)
  • Us San Franciscans are pretty spoiled when it comes to good food and we love any event that gives us an opportunity to celebrate just that. The upcoming SF Chefs is one of the most prominent celebrations of San Francisco's rich food, wine and spirits culture. Hosted in Union Square and at venues throughout the city, the festival gives the spotlight to top chefs, mixologists and winemakers.

We're teaming up with our friends at SF Chefs to give away a pair of tickets to the Grand Tasting Tent event on August 5th, where the winner will be showered with the finest food and drink San Francisco has to offer. All you have to do to be eligible is spot any dish at the almost 200 participating San Francisco restaurants, from now until August 1st. We'll pick a winner at random - the more you spot, the more chances to win.

For more about the SF Chefs festivities taking place throughout the city and to see a full list of Grand Tasting Tent participating restaurants, visit SF Chefs' website.

And we can't miss the fun, so look out for Team Foodspotting in our Foodspotting t-shirts at the Grand Tasting Tent!

  • We want Foodspotting to become the shortest path between you and good food.

Foodspotting's superpower is making people hungry: If you're not launching Foodspotting because you're hungry, you will be soon after! Almost every single day, we see tweets like these...

With our New Place Page in Foodspotting 3.5, we introduced some new ways to satisfy those cravings and close the hunger-satisfaction loop: You could learn more via Yelp, check out the menu via SinglePlatform and make reservations using OpenTable.

Today, we're taking one more step toward closing that loop: Online Ordering Integration via GrubHub

When you're browsing Foodspotting, have you ever wished for a "Buy it now!" button? Well, our partnership with GrubHub is the first step in that direction. When you see some amazing dish on Foodspotting, you can tap through to the Place page and see if it's available for pick up or delivery on GrubHub. Tapping "Order Now via GrubHub" will take you to GrubHub's new mobile-friendly website where you can easily complete your order, no login required.

This is just the beginning - we're working on ways to make it easier to find food you can order in or pick up, dish-specific ordering and more. But with over 15,000 restaurants in cities large and small across the US, we hope you'll find plenty of great dishes you can order right from your phone!

As an added bonus, GrubHub will send a $10 credit to the first 25 people who place orders through Foodspotting, towards their NEXT order, just to celebrate this partnership. Go get 'em!

And if you need some inspiration, here are a few of our favorite orderable dishes in our hometown, San Francisco, plus a few of GrubHub's favorites in New York.

  • Editor's Note: Today's Eatup spotlight lands on sunny Sacramento. Not only does the city boast some amazing foods, it also has long been a super well-foodspotted area, thanks to the great community we have there. Special credit goes to Foodspotters Best Friends For Frosting and Ms Munchie for both hosting our July Eatups in Sac-town and collaborating on today's post. Look out for the next Sacramento Eatup, scheduled for August 29 at Red Rabbit.

Best Friends For Frosting x Foodspotting Summer Eat Up at GOOD: street food + design market.

July kicked off with the first ever Foodspotting Summer Eat Up at GOOD: street food + design market. The event drew a crowd of Sacramento food enthusiasts chowing down on delicious dishes from local food trucks, while surrounded by great design from the market vendors. Sacramento based online magazine Best Friends For Frosting hosted this one-of-a-kind Eatup. Watch the amazing wrap up video to see more.

Soon after, Foodspotter Catherine Enfield of Munchie Musings, hosted yet another Foodspotting Eatup at The Eatery in West Sacramento. The lucky Foodspotters who attended had no idea they were about to be treated so well! Chef Jess Milbourn had decided to test new menu items and served five well received dishes, including Peanut Butter Habanero Wings, a Slow Smoked BBQ Pork Shoulder, and a Harissa Bacon Caramel Corn.

Even with those five dishes some chose to also enjoy the Happy Hour menu that was extended for the group. The most popular choice was the Chicago Dogs, small housemade chicken sausage with red wine ketchup, pineapple BBQ sauce, and peach mustard. The Eatery is also well known for the Disco Fries Ryan - fries with bacon, melted cheddar, chicken gravy and fried eggs.

Many of the attendees were already fans and regulars to The Eatery. They knew of the Secret Menu items that the Chef had created for them in the past. One item is the Dessert Burger made with flourless chocolate cake buns, peanut butter pudding burger, sliced strawberries as garnish, and a side of bread pudding fries with strawberry ketchup.

The most fun came when we invented a new dessert item. Taking a cue from the Disco Fries Ryan, we conceptually created Dessert Disco Fries. Next thing we knew, they magically appeared after Chef Jess added chopped strawberries, chocolate chips, caramel sauce, and ice cream to the bread pudding fries. Huge thanks to the generosity of Chef Jess and The Eatery crew.
