Editor's Note: Today's Eatup spotlight lands on sunny Sacramento. Not only does the city boast some amazing foods, it also has long been a super well-foodspotted area, thanks to the great community we have there. Special credit goes to Foodspotters Best Friends For Frosting and Ms Munchie for both hosting our July Eatups in Sac-town and collaborating on today's post. Look out for the next Sacramento Eatup, scheduled for August 29 at Red Rabbit.
Best Friends For Frosting x Foodspotting Summer Eat Up at GOOD: street food + design market.
July kicked off with the first ever Foodspotting Summer Eat Up at GOOD: street food + design market. The event drew a crowd of Sacramento food enthusiasts chowing down on delicious dishes from local food trucks, while surrounded by great design from the market vendors. Sacramento based online magazine Best Friends For Frosting hosted this one-of-a-kind Eatup. Watch the amazing wrap up video to see more.
Soon after, Foodspotter Catherine Enfield of Munchie Musings, hosted yet another Foodspotting Eatup at The Eatery in West Sacramento. The lucky Foodspotters who attended had no idea they were about to be treated so well! Chef Jess Milbourn had decided to test new menu items and served five well received dishes, including Peanut Butter Habanero Wings, a Slow Smoked BBQ Pork Shoulder, and a Harissa Bacon Caramel Corn.
Even with those five dishes some chose to also enjoy the Happy Hour menu that was extended for the group. The most popular choice was the Chicago Dogs, small housemade chicken sausage with red wine ketchup, pineapple BBQ sauce, and peach mustard. The Eatery is also well known for the Disco Fries Ryan - fries with bacon, melted cheddar, chicken gravy and fried eggs.
Many of the attendees were already fans and regulars to The Eatery. They knew of the Secret Menu items that the Chef had created for them in the past. One item is the Dessert Burger made with flourless chocolate cake buns, peanut butter pudding burger, sliced strawberries as garnish, and a side of bread pudding fries with strawberry ketchup.
The most fun came when we invented a new dessert item. Taking a cue from the Disco Fries Ryan, we conceptually created Dessert Disco Fries. Next thing we knew, they magically appeared after Chef Jess added chopped strawberries, chocolate chips, caramel sauce, and ice cream to the bread pudding fries. Huge thanks to the generosity of Chef Jess and The Eatery crew.
