• Our team loves swapping stories of how Foodspotting has drawn us into restaurants we might never have thought to try otherwise: Pie Shakes led me to Chile Pies and Ice Cream. Red Velvet Fried Chicken led Chris to American Cupcake. But whenever some amazing dish piqued our interest, we found ourselves looking for a few more answers: What else is good here? What do friends recommend? How much does it cost?

So with these questions in mind, we reimagined the place page in Foodspotting. The New Place Page makes it easier than ever to satisfy those Foodspotting-induced cravings by putting recommendations, ratings and reservations at your fingertips. When you look up a restaurant on Foodspotting (simply tap a restaurant name in Explore or look it up using the searchable Places tab), whenever possible, we'll show you:

PERSONAL RECOMMENDATIONS Based on your tastes, for example, "Try the Truffled Deviled Eggs because you're a Deviled Egg Expert!"

FRIENDS' RECOMMENDATIONS See what friends and experts like Anthony Bourdain love wherever you go.

REVIEWS VIA YELP Find out more by looking up restaurant level ratings, reviews and details like price and ambiance.

MENUS VIA SINGLEPLATFORM See full menus and prices for nearly 400,000 restaurants.

RESERVATIONS VIA OPENTABLE Book a date with those deviled eggs without leaving Foodspotting.

Beyond this handy dashboard-like Place Page and being 10x more beautiful throughout, there's even more to love in Foodspotting 3.5. Since we launched our redesign in February, we've introduced:

THE NEW PROFILE If you are what you eat, the new Foodspotting profile paints a better picture than ever. Whether you're a self proclaimed dumplings or milkshake expert, friends can now see the titles you've earned and find out what you recommend in each category.

VISUAL MAPS We've made exploring dishes via the map more visual and easier to use.

LOCATION PICKER You could always change your location by moving the map, now you can explore great dishes anywhere in the world, from Uzbekistan to Easter Island.

JAPANESE LANGUAGE Japan is where Foodspotting began, and we're celebrating our roots by introducing Foodspotting in Japanese!

We want Foodspotting to become the picture menu for every restaurant, everywhere in the world. This next iteration of Foodspotting brings us one step closer to that goal, but we couldn't have gotten this far without almost 3 million foodspotters like you! Thanks for being part of our story and spotting over 1.75 million dishes. Keep wanting, loving and cataloguing your favorite dishes wherever you go!

  • Though the Foodspotting team is made up of travel lovers and we're based all over the world, our headquarters are in San Francisco and it's where we call home. That's why we're excited about celebrating hometown chefs at this year's SF Chefs. SF Chefs is San Francisco's premier food, wine, and spirits festival that offers food lovers the opportunity to mingle with their favorite chefs, winemakers, mixologists and more culinary superstars at events hosted throughout the city.

Before the festival returns July 30th through August 5th, SF Chefs will take over the ballpark TONIGHT with SF Chefs at the Park, a preview festival before the SF Giants game against the Colorado Rockies. To get you pumped for the chefs' takes on ballpark food, they put together SF Chefs Guide to Ballpark Food just for you. Try the great food in and around the stadium and compare it to the chefs' versions!

We're pumped to be working with SF Chefs and hope to see you at one of the events. It's not too late to have a fun Monday night at the ballgame. Get tickets to tonight's game here and follow SF Chefs right on Foodspotting.

  • Editor's Note: Some foods transport you back in time while others remind you of a place. Tastykake does both. To celebrate these nostalgia-inducing treats from Philly, we teamed up with Visit Philly to highlight Tastykake-inspired dishes in the City of Brotherly Love. Thanks to Foodspotting ambassadors Brian Lim and Alexis Siemons for leading the eatup and collaborating on today's post!

Last week, Visit Philly and Foodspotting co-hosted an eatup featuring one of Philaldephia's most iconic brands, Tastykake. We began our excursion at Franklin Square’s SquareBurger where attendees indulged in Cake Shakes, a milkshake created with vanilla ice cream blended with Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpets.

Next we stopped by Chef Eric Ripert’s 10 Arts, just south of City Hall. To make their Tastykake ice cream, Chef de Cuisine Nathan Volz explained that they steep Tastykake Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes in heavy cream overnight to infuse the flavor before mixing with dark chocolate.

We wrapped up our dessert crawl at Square Peg where Chef Matt Levin introduced us to Tastykake Apple Pie Milkshakes. Combining Tastykake Apple Pie, Jim Beam, White Tail Caramel Whiskey, apple vodka and cinnamon, this boozy dish is a great example of how even childhood favorites can become grown up treats.

  • This time every year, the James Beard Foundation honors the best of the best in the food industry from chefs and restaurateurs to cookbook authors and food journalists to restaurant designers and architects and more. The Beard Awards are the highest honor for food and beverage professionals working in North America, so, needless to say, it's a pretty big deal for those who live, breathe, eat, work and advocate for good food.

To coincide with the JBF Awards — winners announced on May 4th and 7th — and the release of The James Beard Foundation's Best of the Best cookbook, we're collaborating with our friends at Chronicle Books in a Golden Ticket giveaway!

TO ENTER Simply launch the Foodspotting iPhone and Android apps, log in, and look for a 'Golden Ticket' within the stream to win a copy of The James Beard Foundation's Best of the Best title, plus other Food & Wine titles from the Chronicle Books library. (Retail value over $100.)

Additionally, Chronicle Books is offering Foodspotting users 30% off and free ground shipping in the U.S. for any title. Just enter promo code FOODSPOTTING at checkout. Click here to browse titles on the Chronicle Books site.
