From the starchy and fibrous yuca that just gave off the aroma of garlic and seemingly doused with oil, to the under-seasoned chicken leg that had skin that just wasn’t quite crispy enough for my liking. The meat itself was juicy and tender however, so plus points for that effort.

  • Peri Plate @ Nando's Chicken
    Spotted March 05, 2010
Comprised of 1/4 grilled chicken leg/thigh (or you can choose breast meat), a kebab, and 4 wings with 1 side (choice from Peri fries, classic fries, spiced rice, baked potato, coleslaw) for $11.99. A counter top panel featured the side of garlic bread ($1.89) from their Peritizers list, and I added that as well.

Standard as it gets, when it comes to a simple quesadilla.

  • Deep Fried Chicken @ Honey's Bistro & Coffee

Drier, brittler, flakier skin than what you get with regular fried chicken. Corn starch-based perhaps? The meat inside was tasty and moist, still releasing the heat having just been made.

Chicken wings and drumettes, Korean-style. Tossed in a sweet-spicy coating, goes so well with draft beer!

  • Chicken Shawerma @ Babylon Cafe
    Spotted October 12, 2008
Pita – Non grilled, and a little dry/stale. Surprising considering the turnover they have. Meat quality – Contained both the preferred softer and crispier pieces, providing that much needed balance. Seasoning was a little weak in my opinion. Mean quantity – Below average, in comparison to the amount of the other fillings. This was not filled to the brim so to speak either. Vegetable fillings – Good range as I asked for the “works”, so no point deductions here. Sauce – More than adequate amount of the creamy Tzatziki. As I was drink-less and about to step into a movie theatre, I passed on the also available spicy.

  • Hainanese Chicken Rice @ Hawkers Delight Deli
    Spotted November 16, 2009
Many people have their personal preferences for how they like the meat, but generally I feel its best when its of that silky soft consistency, with just a small amount of gelatinous texture from the skin, which is all jacked up with the trio of dipping sauces such as the powerful dark soya, chili and of course ginger. In fact here at Hawker’s Delight, they mixed the potent chili and ginger together to form one single dip, but lacked the soya much to my disappointment. Back to the meat, it did have a pleasant texture and was not stringy at all, and the poaching liquid it was cooked in had infused some addtional flavors into the chicken. No complaints here, but again, not blow-your-mind outstanding either. The side rice was not as fragrant as I would have hoped and frankly halfway through I was just fine not to eat much more of it at all.

he volume here was pretty good, as once each meat-on-a-stick was cut up into bite size pieces, there was more than enough for the four of us. Each one had a different flavor component: plain, a spicy ketchup, a yuzu mustard, shichimi togarashi (seven flavor chili pepper), and teriyaki. While the condiment on each created a different flavor combination, the chicken itself was identical on each stick. The meat was tasty however, nicely seasoned with a crunchy exterior.

  • Chicken Nuggets with Rice @ Bbt Cafe
    Spotted November 16, 2009
What I was hoping for with the chunks of chicken, that were seasoned nicely (with what seemed to be Chinese Five Spice), and crispy on the outside (due to a heavy dose of corn starch) but still tender and soft on the inside, was indeed delivered. The side compartments were filled with an odd tomato and scrambled egg mixture that was lukewarm and not too flavorful, as well as some previously frozen corn kernels and a bitter-tasting green vegetable that I was unable to identify, and which I could not stomach at all. The rice was disappointing too, was much too dry for my liking – almost seemed like it was fried rice!
