The 2011 Big Eat San Francisco

7x7 Magazine · San Francisco Scavenger Hunt · created about 7 years ago

It's our third annual Big Eat: 100 windows to the city's soul — or stomach. (We think of them as one and the same).

This year, 30 dishes and drinks are new, though not all are new to SF. The method of compiling the list is more organic than conventional. There are the 2010 discoveries — Chairman Bao’s pork buns, Fatted Calf’s meatloaf sandwich — mixed with a few senior moments (as in, “How could we have forgotten the clam chowder at Anchor Oyster Bar or the octopus stew at La Ciccia?”). We’ve also included a new dish or two from our readers’ discriminating suggestions — see the hamburguesa at Don Pistos and the duck larb at Lers Ros. Like any well-balanced meal, The Big Eat has got a dash of spice, a spoonful of nostalgia, and its fair share of ground meat.

Consume it all first (and show us evidence by "spotting" an item on Foodspotting with a photo), and you'll win a foodie trip to Napa. (Grand prize includes two nights at the Napa River Inn, dinner for two at Morimoto Napa and a late-night wine tasting at John Anthony Wines). The first runner up will win a local cookbook library from Chronicle Books and the second runner up will win a cleanse package from Can Can Cleanse.

So get spotting!

Note: Because there are so many of the same items, unfortunately prizes can't be given to the same winner two years in a row. The contest will be over once someone has spotted all 100 items. Second and third place prizes will be awarded to whoever is next in line. Good luck!

P.S. BECAUSE OF THIS, THE LEADERBOARD BELOW may not accurately reflect this year's winners, since last year's winners may still follow the guide!
