Cuban style roast pork... you’ll never know a better way to appreciate Cuban mojo (traditional Cuban seasoning) of the basic ingredients of garlic, salt, orange and lemon juice, onion, oregano and olive oil, than through this savory dish. This is slow roasting at its best of a pork shoulder! You have to make sure it is prepared by someone who has grown up eating it from a Cuban Aunt, Grandmother or Mother! This place does it!
Hígado ala Italiana (although nothing Italian) is a Cuban take on sautéed liver in traditional seasonings - one of my favorites! Here it's served with arroz blanco y frijoles negros, with a side of yuca con mojo and garnished with slight sautéed white onions... hhmmmm gooood, sabroso!
Their Cuban Sandwich has the authentic and traditional layering of ham, roasted pork with the right amount of mojo seasoning, cheese and pickle between a sliced length of fresh Cuban bread. They are grilled in a plancha (sandwich press) til ham, pork and pickles are warmed and the bread is slightly crusty. The sazón is key to their success as one of Miami's best!
Cuban Papas Rellenas (Stuffed Potatoes – not really, their mashed!) is well seasoned picadillo (ground beef), in oil, old fashioned bread crumbs, eggs and salt. Although it sounds simple, it’s the Cuban sazón (sofrito and mojo) prep’d with loving care that creates this typical mainstay and quick eats dish. This place keeps the tradition alive, and well worth going to have it!
Although not the authentic perfection of the true Cuban Sandwich, Ketchup does a very good job in the nouveau culinary style to it. A great find almost 1,000 miles from Little Havana!
Rabo Encendido (aka 'Ox Tails on Fire') - actually has no 'hot' spices in it, is a fantastic favorite dish of my heritage. Especially great when served with authentic arroz blanco con frijoles negros, with a side of platanos maduros! This place is a keeper - tender, tasty and finger-sucking good... I'm going back!
