31 South Street Saint Andrews, Fife
In 1888 Bennett Jannetta left Italy. Twenty years later, he set up B. Jannettas in St Andrews, selling vanilla ice cream to the locals. The shop has stayed in the family, and thrived to this day, now offering 52 flavours of Italian-style ice cream. Take your cone for a wander through the nearby Cathedral grounds, or sit down in the tranquil St Mary's Quad.

They're fudgy, they're, er, doughnutty, they are without doubt a nutrutionist's nightmare, but what a treat! If there is a more delicious cake to be had in Scotland, I've yet to find it. An intense sugar rush, outdone only by Bart Simpson drinking Apu's Super Slushy Syrup, undiluted.

More beautifully crafted cakes, pastries and sandwiches than you can feasibly (or healthily) eat as a snack between lunch and dinner, plus award-winning tea and a glass of my personal favourite pink champagne (Laurent Perrier); there's nothing not to like about this extravagant treat!

Any of their cupcakes are good to try, with regular specials and flavours that you hadn't thought of before, definitely somewhere to try when visiting St Andrews

130 Market Street St Andrews, Fife
High-end fish and chip shop in St Andrews, from the team who started the famously award-winning Anstruther Fish Bar. If you've never tried decent fish and chips from a coastal town before, prepare to be astounded!

9 High Street Pittenweem, Fife
The best hot chocolate ever made (personal opinion, not yet substantiated) comes from The Cocoa Tree Cafe in Pittenweem. Try the classic (milk), dark, white, gianduja (hazelnut, my favourite), or the super-rich short caliente (like the espresso of hot chocolates). In the winter, they're served with a cinnamon stick as a stirrer; in the summer you may prefer to sit out in the tiny garden with a chocolate milkshake. The perfect stop-off on the Fife Coastal Path between Elie and Anstruther.

Falside Farm Anstruther, Fife
Jane Stewart diversified her dairy herd by making her own cheese on-site, and named it for the local's pronunciation of the nearby town of Anstruther. Now highly-rated by national food writers, the classic Anster cheese is fresh, creamy and crumbly. Don't miss the matured Anster, and the flavoured Ansters. Visit this airy cheese-making venue for tasty cheese-themed snacks and lunches, as well as to browse and buy fun local crafts and artisan foods.

The best scones I've ever tasted - with the most delicious clotted cream - are served as one of the three parts of the afternoon tea at the Fairmont St Andrews. The sandwiches and pastries are also incredible; definitely recommend a trip!

Popular with locals and visitors alike, we particularly recommending eating in at the Anstruther Fish Bar as this guarantees that you have crispy batter on your fish.

Inchcape House, St Marys Place St Andrews, Fife
Brilliant place for a 2 course lunch for only £4.95. Menu changes weekly and there is always something tempting to eat. Part of 'The House' family this restaurant offers a Mexican vibe with quality food and in the evening you cannot beat one of their frozen Margarita's.
