Even though the Netherlands is a small country, it has interesting traditional food to offer. Even though historically wise some things didn't start in this small country, throughout the years some dishes became typical Dutch.
To introduce Dutch food to foodspotters, here I like to collect those dishes or drinks. And because Dutch like to travel and trade, some typical Dutch food can be found worldwide too.

Yes, you can get hot chocolate all over the world. But this brand is typical Dutch (and delicious).
Stamppot zuurkool is a typical Dutch Winter dish.
Kroketten. To make it more typical Dutch, order a 'broodje kroket'. Kroket on a roll or with sliced bread.
Our 'pannenkoeken' are delicious and different from the American pancakes or French crèpes. Almost everything goes on a pancake, so this is a must try when in the Netherlands!
Try to eat the 'haring' in the traditional way!

Stroopwafels are delicious when they're warm and fresh. If you buy a package (like this one): have a cup of tea or coffee. Put your stroopwafel on top of the glass and have it melt for a bit. Then eat it!
