Dark Hot Chocolate at Recchiuti Confections in San Francisco, CA

Although this is a chocolate shop, sometimes they are mixing hot chocolate and will sell you a cup with a homemade marshmallow. Nothing but melted chocolate and a little water. It's my favorite in the Bay Area by far and the closest to Angelina's. It's bitter and packs a punch like a shot of liquor.

Tchoshot at TCHO Tasting Room in San Francisco, CA

I somehow have not tried this yet but it always looks amazing! I like TCHO's chocolate, with its flavor profiles and all, so I am sure it's good.

Melting Chocolate at Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco, CA

Quite a bit overpriced (priced for tourists) but still holds its own, surprisingly, being a mass produced product and all. Made with melted chocolate shavings and very fruity. Not my personal favorite but my husband Seth loves it!

Peppermint Hot Chocolate at Christopher Elbow Artisanal Chocolate in San Francisco, CA

These are grownup hot chocolates in a number of flavors, from Coconut Curry to Venezuelan Spice to Passion Fruit. Tried the milky edition last but would try European Style (water based) in the future. Don't expect sweet here.

Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate at Bittersweet: The Chocolate Cafe in Oakland, CA

Creamy and milky (if you order it that way) and comes in many flavors but Peanut Butter is the richest. The White Chocolate which has cardamom, I believe, is amazing too.
