After watching the movie "Tampopo," I was inspired to make the drive to one of the few Bay Area ramen shops I hadn't tried. While it was a gorgeous bowl, the broth really missed the spot and the ingredients (except the deep fried soft shell crab) were all very average.
Rare Flank Steak, ordered on the side, is my standard order whenever I have pho. That way you can cook the steak in the piping hot broth without overcooking it. Some pho restaurants (Pho Hoa chain) do not even allow ordering this way, likely due to meat quality issues, but even fewer pack rare flank steak to go. Was pleased with how well this MV old time restaurant with new ownership provided this item and both the quantity and freshness.
Ordered to go and can't help but be impressed by how well they packed everything and the quality of the ingredients. Plenty of broth (I hate when there's too little), lean cuts of meat, a fatty brisket piece, and rare flank steak separated from the rest as well as the cilantro, sliced onions, and green onion. Good job!
