We had a friend from London visiting recently. With this being her first visit to Scotland we attempted to cram in as many of our favourite sights, bars, cafes and restaurants as we possibly could. One place we knew would definitely appear on that list was The Butchershop. Situated in Glasgow’s West End just minutes from Kelvingrove Park, The Butchershop Bar & Grill is a Manhattan-styled neighbourhood steakhouse and cocktail bar offering the best quality steaks, fresh seafood and expertly mixed signature cocktails. If you are looking for the perfect hangover curing brunch, lunch with friends or a romantic dinner – the Butchershop delivers it all. Now in its second year in Glasgow’s West End, The Butchershop was born through owner James Rusk’s love and passion for New York City. Living there for many years James learnt the craft of great food and service working at the famous Soho-based French Bistro ‘Balthazar’ owned by renowned New York restaurateur, Keith McNally. He wanted to create an atmosphere where customers could experience high quality service and an exceptional standard of food – a place that could capture the hustle and bustle and buzzing atmosphere of New York City to Glasgow’s West End. After a night out on the town, the three of us arrived at The Butchershop the next morning looking for something to cure us of our terrible hangovers. As they say at the bar – Sundays are “all about the eggs” and I had eggs benedict on my mind. From the moment you step into the bar you know you are in for a treat. Smooth jazz and soul music drifts across the restaurant and staff treat you like old friends – there are even newspapers to read if you choose to do so. All three of us opted for eggs benedict and it did not disappoint. I’ll even call it the best eggs benedict in Glasgow. The Butchershop gets it just right. The hollandaise sauce was full of flavour and the eggs perfectly cooked. The moment the egg yolk burst and began to run all over the rest of the food, we soon forgot all about our hangovers. All conversation stopped for a few moments as we practically inhaled our food. We had our eggs benedict served with tea and a side of toast to share and were all happily full when it was time to leave. As full as I was though, I couldn’t help but notice the mammoth steaks that were being served to the couple seated opposite our table. I was suddenly hungry again and we have already planned our next visit to the bar. Tuesday nights are ‘steak frites’ nights. Between 5 and 10pm you can enjoy the finest chargrilled Scottish steaks served up with a bucket of handcut fries and your choice of sauce. If the steak we witnessed being sent to the next table was anything to go by, then you can expect another feature on The Butchershop here at Bellyeats.com very soon. It’s not hard to tell that all of the food served at The Butchershop is prepared with care. If you are looking for a chilled out brunch or one of the best steaks Glasgow has to offer, then pick up the phone and book your table now.
