Spotted May 19, 2011$6 at happy hour! Way worth it. The patty tastes like beef, and while it's juicy, it doesn't make the brioche bun (dangerous!) into a beefy bread pudding. Very, very heavy, but worth it if you really like the taste of beef. Which, I mean, you should if you're eating a beef burger. -

Spotted October 05, 2010One of the beefiest burgers I've ever eaten---you could smell it from the other end of the table. The beef was perfect, in that it was cohesive, tasted of good beef, and wasn't making the rest of the burger mushy. Quality bacon, too, a nice touch and sort of made the burger for me. The bun wasn't as good as the rest of the burger, but not in such a way that it ruined the dish. One of my top 5 burgers, for sure. -

Spotted August 19, 2010Lamb patties on a long bun. The lamb seasoning reminds me a bit of gyros. The bread has a fragile, shatter-prone crust with a chewy, but yet still soft interior. A bit of a lighter alternative to their burger, though it's gonna be a tough decision from now on, because both are excellent. -

Spotted January 01, 2010The perpetual question here in southern California was and is "Does it beat In-N-Out?" I think it's apples to oranges, really. In-N-Out's burger is a bit like the burger atom. It's pretty much indivisible (ok I know quarks and electrons and protons and neutrons...but stay with me here), in that there don't seem to be ingredients. It's a holistic experience, swarthed in cheese, spread, and a wonderful melding of flavors. Five Guys' is a bit more of a discrete, pointillistic burger, with each of the components being more individual and noticeable. The patties here are juicy and just a touch messy, and the fries are a bit more robust than In-N-Out's, fried in peanut oil. However, the one element of the burger that is absolutely inferior in my opinion is the bun, but only inferior in the sense that it's not In-N-Out's bun. It's a perfectly good bun when not compared as such. While my loyalty lies with In-N-Out, (also due to proximity...I can't drive to Cerritos every time i want a burger) this is a mighty fine burger that holds its own in customizability and sheer quality. -

Spotted December 20, 2009Well, this might not be the same Farmer Boys we go to, but it's a chain so oh well. For being a semi-fast food burger, this is darn good. It's very similar to the burgers served at the various single-location burger spots in the area that I love so very much, like Fantasy Burger. There's not a really clear way to define what these characteristics are though, I'm sorry to say. It's just a good, no-nonsense bacon cheeseburger with guacamole. -
