Spotted August 21, 2011pie of the day with sides. their fries are absolute winners. pie (and a pot pie we also ordered) pretty good too - not at an amazeballs level, but certainly above average. -
Spotted August 13, 2011perfection. peaches were tangy and didn't taste of canned fruit at all. beautiful location and some of the most genuinely warm hospitality we encountered in an eatery down south.-

Spotted August 11, 2011new favourite newtown cafe. or even wellingtonian cafe, for that matter. i promise it tastes better than it looks haha. comes served with a schmasty chutney i lapped up. really, if a cafe gets innovative cabinet food right (especially with culinary restrictions), it's almost guaranteed that most everything else that comes out of the kitchen would be equally as good, if not better. perfect blend of flavours. -
Spotted May 14, 2011sold at the stall that sells wonderful heirloom squashes while also doubling as the parentals of jessie, founder of ilovepies that is now available at every other gourmet grocer's. have had my skepticisms because, frankly, how can packaged reheatables be any good at all? i guess i've been proven wrong with this one. the flavours are a delight here, although i found the stiff stickiness of the jam a little unusual and the crust not as flaky as i'd optimally have them be. buffalo yogurt deserves special mention too - sold by the jar from the man in the stall next door, it's lighter but carries a characteristic taste profile. -
Spotted March 08, 2011and a satisfying fish pie - the almost curry-like sauce in the pie ('cept without the slightest notch of heat) pairs beautifully with the bountiful filling of fish, eggs and potatoes. pastry a little soggy on the inside, but thankfully retains its toastiness on the outside. their tomato and baby celery chutney's got a sweet tang to it. -
Spotted February 22, 2011wish i had the opportunity to order more, but i only arrived after the kitchen had closed. i can see why the hype for this place, though. this was pretty awesome - definitely worth a reorder. chunks of preserved figs, small and whole tart seedless grapes. -

Spotted February 05, 2011the infamous. nothing amazing about it - just simple, old-school, hearty fare.-

Spotted February 01, 2011mmm very well made. i'm not usually a meringue fan, but this is wonderful. curd is tangy and rightfully balanced between sweet and sour, tart shell is just right (although not as delectable as the legendary bourke st's) and the meringue is fluffy with a burnished skin of a texture that is impossible to fault. the thick peanut brittle that comes with adds an extra oomph to the variety of flavours. -

Spotted December 06, 2010a little overpriced for cabinet food at $13.50, tbh - perhaps that's the price one pays for organic goodness? i personally didn't think it was anything special. their tomato chutney i have all the love for, though.-
